I just came from a meeting where we discussed two groups: the people who were just received into the Church at Easter and those who attended the Called and Gifted workshop we offered which helped folks begin to identify their charisms. Both groups are so enthused about getting involved in all the ministries we have going on, and as a result: they are excited about growing in joy. Statistics show that individuals who volunteer are not only happier than those who don’t share their time or talents, but are also physically and mentally healthier. Volunteering helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety; it combats depression; it hones skills and gives you a clearer purpose.
Do you want to be happier? Of course you do!
You could visit someone who is homebound, or call them on the phone. Are you currently in health care or a retired health professional? Get involved in our Family of Parishes’ Health Program. We are beginning Coffee Hour again and you could do something as simple as doing blood pressure checks there. I know of two parishioners whose lives were literally saved because of this. Do you like working with kids? Be a Baptism Assistant, Sew Baptismal Garments, or help with Children’s Liturgy.
Do you find special joy in attending our liturgies? Since you are in the building already, you could be a lector, usher, altar server, sacristan, or a Eucharistic minister. Join our decorating committee and help make the inside of the Cathedral look beautiful for all the different liturgical seasons. Heck, help water plants or launder the liturgical linens – or even our kitchen towels and tablecloths!
Are you a carpenter, plumber, electrician, or in heating or cooling, we can use you. Pull weeds, plan a picnic, lead a Bible study, start a new ministry, anything you like to do . . . we can use you! If you want to discuss your involvement, simply connect with one of the leaders listed on page 5 of this bulletin. If you’re not sure what you want to do or who to ask, please email Marian Bart or call her at 313-883-2869 and she would be super glad to provide some guidance.
God bless you!
