Some Excellent Questions!

August 8, 2017 by Fr. J.J. Mech

QUESTION: What do you do if you are seeking a fun time where you can be spiritually fed, meet new people, engage with folks you already do know, and be fed with delicious food? OR… How do you invite people to a church event when sometimes that seems too hard to do?

ANSWER: Our Annual Belle Isle Cluster Mass & Picnic! It takes place next Sunday, August 20, beginning with Mass at 1:00 pm, and goes to 5:00 pm.  There is no Mass being celebrated at St. Moses that morning, but if you can’t make the 1 o’clock Mass at shelter 2, there is a Mass at 11am at the Cathedral.  We have some new things in store for you to make it even better (i.e. games, prizes, etc.).  Please bring something to sit on, a side dish or dessert, and a friend.  We also would appreciate if folks could donate cases of pop or water and we love, love, love helping hands! (set up begins at noon).  I also love, love, love it when people throw tons of water balloons at Fr. Patrick! I think if you hit him with more than one, you get some kind of plenary indulgence. J

QUESTION: What do you do if you are seeking a fun time where you can be spiritually fed, meet new people, engage with folks you already do know, and be fed with delicious food? OR… How do you invite people to a church event when sometimes that seems too hard to do?

ANSWER: Alpha! What is Alpha?  It is a series of sessions exploring the basics of Christian faith. The Archbishop mentioned it in his pastoral letter Unleash the Gospel.  We provide a great meal, we watch a short video, and then there is table discussion. Each session looks at a different question that people can have about faith and is designed to create conversation. It’s very relaxed and informal.  It’s just an open and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.

We are running two Alpha sessions at the Cathedral beginning on Sept. 10 and 11:  Sundays 9:15-10:45 AM or Mondays 6:30-8 PM.  (Please choose which day of the week you will attend – you won’t come to both.) On Sundays, we will serve breakfast and on Mondays we will serve dinner.  There is no cost, but we would LOVE it if you could please register, and invite a friend to register too! We really want everyone to be involved, so please visit our website to register or call 313-865-6300 and talk to Marian if you have any questions.  Your life will be much richer if you participate.

God Bless,

Fr. J.J.
