As 2023 begins, the Resurget Cineribus Family of Parishes undertakes a new ministry and spiritual journey. We will join with Rabbi Dorit Edut, President, Detroit Interfaith Outreach Network (DION) in supporting the vulnerable teenagers at Central High School in Detroit. These teenagers have been identified as “food insecure” and in some cases “homeless.”
DION started a campaign a few years ago called “Snack Packs” wherein DION donates 50 bags of healthy food items twice per month. These items are given to students on Friday at school to help them over the weekend (when they do not receive food at school).
We also will be including a separate bag of hygiene supplies since many of these teens have no access to clean water. Further, many have no access to appropriate bathrooms where they live and, therefore, bathe at school before classes start.
How are we going to help?
Within our “Care Pack” we will create 50 food packs and 50 hygiene packs for the vulnerable teenagers once a month in what is remaining of the school year. We will then deliver these packages to Central High School in Detroit on the designated Thursday mornings so they can be privately distributed to the kids in need. For more information or ways to be involved, please give me a call or send me a text or email.
