In accordance with the recent directive from the archdiocese that “the pastor should evaluate the return of the distribution of the Precious Blood to the Faithful,” Father J.J. has made the following decisions:
- Remaining alert and flexible in consideration of public health, the Cathedral plans to make the precious blood available to those who are willing and able to partake.
- This renewed availability will begin at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 14.
- Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion who are uncomfortable distributing the precious blood because of the duty of consuming any remaining portion in the cup should not undertake that particular role.
- All the faithful are encouraged to remember that in each species of the Eucharist (that is: in the consecrated host and in the consecrated wine), “the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained.” Enchiridion Symbolorum 1651
