The Mental Health Ministry Team at the Cathedral parish is offering a Mental Health Survey on May 21 after Mass. This survey will help the team understand the mental health needs of the parishioners and focus on serving them better.
During the presentation on May 21, Madeline Hill and Sr. Laura Kendrick will give a brief history and purpose of the Ministry. After that, each of you will be asked to complete the survey, which will take approximately 10-12 minutes.
If you’re not able to stay after Mass, no worries! We’ve got you covered with digital access via QR code provided in the bulletin from May 21 through June 11. You can also complete the survey at home using hard copies that can be returned to the parish office.
We hope you’ll take this opportunity to share your thoughts and experiences with us. Let’s work together to create a supportive and caring community for everyone at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Sacrament parish!
Help us understand that the way we talk about people with a mental illness affects the people themselves and how we treat the illness. So often people who have a mental illness are known as their illness; people say that “she is bipolar,” or “he is schizophrenic”. Help us not use that phrase. People who have cancer are not cancer; those with heart disease are not heart disease. People with a mental illness are not the illness—they are beautiful creations of God.
There is so much fear, ignorance, and hurtful attitudes that people who live with mental illness needlessly suffer further. Our society needs to provide resources to understand and treat mental illness. Help us support and be compassionate to those with mental illness, every bit as much as we support those who suffer from any other illness.
Lord, Grant courage to those for whom we pray and fill them with hope. Help them remember You love them; they are never alone. Saints Dymphna and John, Patrons of those with a Mental Illness, pray for us.
