Inviting Someone to Alpha

August 14, 2017 by Fr. Patrick Gonyeau

Hello Family of Christ!   I’m excited about the upcoming Alpha Series here at the Cathedral beginning on September 10 (Sunday morning option) and September 11 (Monday evening option).  Alpha is a beautiful introduction to Christianity that has touched tens of millions of lives in the United States alone, while also having a powerful impact internationally.

I was blessed with the joy of going through an Alpha Course in the fall and it was truly awesome. Even if you go to Church every Sunday, Alpha will stir the flame of faith in your heart. The big question is, will you pray to the Holy Spirit and ask Him who he wants you to invite?  One of the best aspects of Alpha is when one friend brings another to the series letting them know that it’s about faith, there’s a free meal, a powerful video, and rich, non-judgmental discussion.  The 15 topics presented over 11 weeks are excellent:

  1. Is There More to Life Than This?
  2. Who is Jesus?
  3. Why Did Jesus Die?
  4. How Can I Have Faith?
  5. Why and How Do I Pray?
  6. Why and How Should I Read the Bible?
  7. How Does God Guide Us?
  8. Who is the Holy Spirit?
  9. What Does the Holy Spirit Do?
  10. How Can I Be Filled with the Holy Spirit?
  11. How Can I Make the Most of the Rest of My Life?
  12. How Can I Resist Evil?
  13. Why and How Should I Tell Others?
  14. Does God Heal Today?
  15. What About the Church?

I can’t recommend Alpha highly enough, please let’s all pray about who to invite and ask the Holy Spirit for the courage to do so.  Even if they say no, please know that your heavenly Father is rejoicing that you stepped out in faith!  GOD LOVES FAITH! Evangelization means sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, his saving death and resurrection.   Alpha is great way to unleash the gospel, news that has the power to bring people into a whole new eternity-changing reality.  Let’s pray: Holy Spirit, please show me who to invite to Alpha, please help me to accompany them on the journey…please give me the courage to invite them…

God bless you friends!  Fr. Patrick
