The days of parishes communicating simply through printed bulletins and lengthy announcements at the end of a Mass are over. No, they aren’t going away; but even more is being offered. As part of Unleash the Gospel, parishes are exploring and experimenting with social media everywhere. Parishes, including the Cathedral, are using social media for communications of all types. Even Archbishop Vigneron uses Twitter; you can follow him at @DetArchbishop.
But not everyone wants to be on Facebook or Twitter. Fortunately, there is an alternative if you would like to stay informed about happenings at the Cathedral but don’t want to join the social media hoopla. myParish is a free app for smart phones that provides a convenient communication tool without having to be on social media.
myParish has a number of easy to use tools and some advanced features we are still exploring. But in the meantime, we utilize Messages, Calendar, Parish Info, Readings, and Bulletins among the number of features. We use Messages for important announcements and news, such as when the office closed last month due to hazardous weather conditions. And yes, as has been stated in previous bulletins, I try to provide a reflection on the daily readings.
myParish is available on the AppStore and Google Play. There is no charge for the app, but there is minimal data usage, so depending on your plan, there could be a data charge.
In the Peace of Christ,
Deacon Mike
