Commissions: Moving Forward

November 20, 2016 by Fr. J.J. Mech

On Thursday October 27, Our Lady of the Rosary did an awesome job of hosting our first ever cluster commission night.  What is that you ask?  This summer, the Cluster Parish Council Chairpersons, Co-Chairs and leadership met and proposed/approved how we would organize our cluster this year.  It was agreed that once a month all of the commissions from each parish would meet at one site.  We would begin the evening with some type of formation.  Next, the commissions would get an update from the pastor on what is happening within the cluster.  Next, the various commissions from the three parishes would meet together, i.e. all three worship commissions would meet together, all three Christian service commissions would meet together, etc.  We do this to help the collaboration process and to benefit each other’s ministries.  Finally, all of the various commissions would then meet separately as individual parish commissions (BSC Worship, St. Moses Worship, Rosary Worship, etc.).  FYI, while the commissions meet, the PPC Chair persons, co-chairs, and leadership meet to plan the next PPC meeting.  The gathering is organized in this way so that we can collaborate better, have time to address any concerns, and move forward.

The minutes taken at the various commission meetings at that gathering are then sent out to the Parish Council Chairperson from each parish.  The Chair then makes sure that the minutes are distributed to the rest of that parishes PPC members before the next parish council meeting.  Each of the three parishes then have separate PPC meetings.

This process gives the PPC the ability to be informed, ask clarifying questions at the PPC, address the bigger issues and move the parish forward.

Because this is the first time we did this, we had a few glitches which caused some commission members to be absent, but we are straightening that out.  The Chair people and leadership are aware that due to scheduling conflicts, all commission members may not be able to make a particular cluster commission meeting.   Because these meetings will be very positive for the life of our parishes, we ask that all do their best to attend.  If various commissions would find it helpful to have an additional  meeting each month or as circumstance may require, this is certainly ok.  This is new and we will review it after this year.

All organizations in each parish should be represented through this process.   If you want or should be on one of the commissions (Worship, Christian Service, Stewardship/Parish Life, Education, and Evangelization) let us know.  We need your help to make our parish/cluster the best it can be.

This year’s calendar is below; all meetings begin at 6:00 PM.

  • January 9 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral
  • February 6 at St. Moses the Black
  • March 6 at Our Lady of the Rosary
  • April 3 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral
  • May 8 at Our Lady of the Rosary
