Have you been wondering what is behind the gold curtains in the sanctuary?
The Cathedral acquired 12 gorgeous wooden apostle statues and 2 matching angel statues when St. Benedict closed. These statues were being stored in our community center (gym) for the last few years with the hope that one day they would be placed inside the Cathedral. When we discovered that water was gathering in their storage space, Fr. J.J. decided to make it a priority to get them safely out of there and let them acclimate to the Cathedral, so they are now being stored behind those curtains. The Archdiocesan Cathedral Council’s plan is to raise the funds needed to restore them and place these statues in the Cathedral, along with a relic of each Apostle. The relics are being prepared even now. Just think: you would be able to invite anyone to come here to experience awesome beauty and prayer in a very unique and wonderful way! Here, at your own parish ~ or perhaps your own second parish!
The Archdiocesan Cathedral Council (ACC) has been working hard to fine-tune a bold, professional, and workable master plan to make our Cathedral an apostolic center where all people — from our steadfast Mass-goers to our local passersby to guests from other Detroit parishes and beyond — will WANT to linger here and will be repeatedly drawn into deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and his Church. Please pray that right connections happen so that if this is God’s will for the Cathedral, we will continue to find the funds, skills, tools, and power to make it happen.
