Apartments

The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament and the Archdiocese of Detroit are excited to announce a partnership with MHT Housing Inc. to transform the Archdiocesan-owned vacant lot on Woodward between Calvert and Glynn — across the street from the Cathedral — into affordable housing with retail and space for community programs, classes, and other vital neighborhood services. This building will be called The Cathedral Arts Apartments.

A letter from our rector regarding this project is available here: Cathedral Apartments Letter from the Rector

The property will be owned by a new joint venture entity established in partnership between MHT Housing Inc. and the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament.  It will be managed by MHT Management, LLC one of the largest individual landlords in Detroit and with 30,000 residents in a variety of developments throughout the State of Michigan

The Cathedral Apartments will feature a single four-story building with 53 two-bedroom units and approximately 6,000 square feet of commercial retail space.  All of the apartment units will be low-income ranging from 30% of Area Median Income to 80% of Area Median Income.  The approximate range of incomes serviced is $21,600 to $57,600.  Sixteen of the units will be subsidized with Project Based Section-8 Vouchers from the Detroit Housing Commission, offering further affordability for these units.

Construction is anticipated to break ground in July 2022 with completion expected in 12 months and occupancy completed in July 2023.

Applications for residence are under development. Stay tuned to this page for details as they become available!

MHT’s local involvement with the Cathedral neighborhood and preparatory work:

Working alongside MHT Housing, Inc. the Archdiocesan Cathedral Council is taking action to make the neighborhood safer and more hospitable. In April 2021, the dangerous and blighted structure just to our north was abated and demolished.

Our beautiful new outdoor crucifix, donated by Simeon Simeonov and Lidia Simeonova, was installed in August 2020 by the good folks of M&N Contracting LLC and Image 360, who donated their time and skills. Thanks to MHT Housing for getting all the details aligned!
