The SON Fund

November 15, 2025 by Jacqueline Beltowski

Introducing the Serving Our Neighbors Fund at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament!
Known as the “SON Fund,” the financial assistance that we give comes directly from the gospels and from the mouth of Jesus Christ. When asked, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus responded with the parable of the Good Samaritan.
In short, the parable of the Good Samaritan: A man was attacked by robbers and left half dead. A priest and a Levite passed by the injured man and did not help him. Yet, a third person, a Samaritan (who was in a sense an “enemy” of the Jews), saw the dying man and helped him. He bound his wounds and took him to an inn and cared for him (see Luke 10:29—10:35).
Jesus asked, “‘Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?’ He answered, ‘The one who treated him with mercy.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise’” (Luke 10:36-37).
What is our key takeaway? The Scripture passage is rich with meaning and significance. For the SON Fund, it is treating every person as our neighbor and serving them directly through financial assistance.
Specifically in Detroit, at the Cathedral, we give financial assistance to our neighbors, be it rental assistance, security deposits, utility assistance, and so forth. This year alone, we were able to assist 50 individuals, offering a total of $36,475.
However, our funds are nearly gone, and we have begun a waitlist. We are in need of perpetual financial help so we can continue to give financial assistance.
Testimonials:
“I am really grateful and thankful to the SON Fund organization and their help at my time of need. I want to thank God for the SON fund.” Edith Turner
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, your care and genuineness reminded me of God’s love expressed in others.” Rachel Orange
Please consider financially supporting the SON fund as we serve our neighbor. The link to our secure giving page is here or please contact me at 313-202-9492.
Thank you in Christ,
